New technologies for SMEs in the chemical industry - foundation for an integrated resource efficiency management
- In the IRMa research project (Integrative Resource Efficiency Management for SMEs in the chemical industry), approaches were developed to support SMEs in the chemical industry with regard to resource efficiency and the circular economy. The main objective of the project was to develop, improve and apply methods to reduce resource consumption and promote the circular economy in SMEs. The "IRMa approach" developed contains a comprehensive set of methods, indicators and tools to evaluate internal processes and products in terms of material and energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and the circular economy. Effective and more efficient technologies play an important role in increasing resource efficiency and the circular economy through technical measures. In order to identify relevant technologies that contribute to the circular economy (CE) and resource efficiency (RE) in the production processes of SMEs, a structured, AI-supported technology scouting process was developed and carried out. 87 technologies were identified for SMEs in the chemical industry. The most technologies were found for the fields energy efficiency (heat pumps and heating) and process intensification. All results are presented in the form of technology profiles. These profiles provide a good foundation for deeper expert analyses, helping identify the most suitable technologies for specific applications.
